Two Lifetimes In One Year

January whispered, stay safe, stay still,
A heart wrapped in caution, unready to feel.
The months rolled by, a quiet refrain,
No room for love, just self-contained.
But summer ignited a spark unforeseen,
A chance encounter, a shift in the scene.
He smiled, he listened, he broke through the wall,
And suddenly, I was ready to fall.
The days grew longer, the nights grew sweet,
Hours of talking, our hearts would meet.
He may have stumbled first, but I fell fast,
Dreaming of moments we thought would last.
Yet love can be fragile, a delicate art,
What seemed like forever was torn apart.
The crash came sudden, the silence profound,
Leaving my heart scattered on the ground.
December arrives with a cruel, quiet sting,
Mourning the warmth that summer did bring.
I started this year unready, alone,
But end it just wishing I could call him my own.
