I Saw You In My Dream

If I could tell you how I feel,
I’d speak of wounds that never heal.
Of nights I’ve cried, of days I’ve missed,
The way you used to hold my wrist.
I’d whisper truths I never said,
Of dreams where you are not quite dead.
Where time rewinds and we begin,
Before the silence crept within.
You looked so different in my sleep,
Like memories I couldn't keep.
Your skin was kissed by sun and sea,
But still you felt like home to me.
You said you knew I’d come once more,
But I just stared, unsure, unsure.
I loved you once—perhaps I do,
But love alone can’t carry two.
You turned and vanished like a ghost,
While I stood clinging to the most—
The most of you I still recall,
The way you laughed, the way you'd fall.
And I was swept away again,
By strangers I could not call friends.
They drove me far, I begged, I pled,
But dreams don’t pause for words unsaid.
Now waking feels like holding air,
You’re gone, and yet you’re everywhere.
A part of me is still your own,
The part that breaks when I'm alone.
